How do I donate?
By buying a dozen eggs or adopting a sea turtle, you’ll help us carry out vital conservation work at Estación Biológica el Banco, and help us to protect sea turtles and their natural habitat.
You can make a donation safe in the knowledge that 100% of your donation will be used to support sea turtle conservation.
How do I volunteer?
At Estación Biológica el Banco we welcome volunteers and students who would like to stay for extended periods of time and get involved in sea turtle conservation.
Volunteer and student placements last a minimum of two weeks and prices vary depending on the length of your stay. If you are interested in volunteering please email research@estacionelbanco.org
How do I join a sea turtle release?
Turtle releases occur daily at 4:45pm on the beach in front of Estación Biológica el Banco. The releases are open to the public.
The Estación Biológica el Banco can be found at km 143 on the road to Monterrico, where you will see a sign for Tortugario el Banco. Follow the track to the beach front where you will find Estación Biológica el Banco. Continue on to the beach where you will find Juan Hilgado and his team preparing for the days release.
How do I get to the station?
Estación Biológica el Banco is located at km 143 on the road to Monterrico. If you are travelling from Guatemala City take the Monterrico road from Puerto San Jose / Puerto Quetzal through Iztapa. At km 143 in the village of el Banco you will find a sign for Tortugario el Banco. Follow the track to the beach front where you will find Estación Biológica el Banco.
There are also regular buses in both directions from Iztapa to Monterrico and they will be happy to drop you at km 143. It is just a short walk from the Tortugario el Banco sign to Estación Biológica el Banco.
