The olive ridley
Olive ridleys are considered to be one of the most numerous sea turtle species, and are famous for congregating in huge numbers to nest. However, in Guatemala we find that females visit beaches along the Pacific Coast throughout the year, choosing to come up to the beach in much lower numbers ranging from 1 to 200 females on any one night.
The green turtle
Green sea turtles were once a common inhabitant of tropical and subtropical waters, and get their name from their characteristic green coloured fat and muscle. Because green turtles feed on a lot of plant material, they grow very slowly. It can take up to 30 or 40 years for female turtles to reach maturity.

I’m here on the Pacific coast of Guatemala at Estación Biológica el Banco and I want to tell you about a really exciting opportunity to come and join in and get involved with some amazing sea turtle work that’s being done down here on the Pacific coast.
The leatherback
Leatherbacks undertake huge migrations from their nesting grounds in the tropics, travelling as far south as New Zealand, and as far north as the Arctic Circle. They are truly remarkable creatures. Populations of leatherbacks are declining in the Pacific, and are in danger of extinction.
